GETTING STARTED with BIME:
Monitor tab
Change your web data world

So you've already created your dashboard, but now you want to change, edit, perfect and publish it, before sharing it with the world! In this tutorial, you will get an overview of the inner workings of the Monitor tab in Bime.

How long will it take?

This tutorial is designed to last 10 minutes.

STEP 1: Inside the Monitor tab
Dashboards

Here you have all the dashboards you ever created with your account. Simply click the title of the dashboard to load it.

It should look something like this:

STEP 2: How to edit a dashboard
Rearrange layout

To change the order and layout of your charts in your dashboard, simply click 'edit' from the drop-down menu using the little blue arrow on the tab for the dashboard you want to edit.

This will bring up a bar which allows you to change various things within the dashboard.

  • 'Reorganize' will automatically fill out any blank spaces in your dashboard.
  • 'Add window' adds a blank window.
  • 'Add image window' adds a window for you to upload images.
  • 'Add text window' lets you add text with rich text formatting options (including hyperlinks).
  • 'Positioning' allows you to auto size your windows (Bime will fit your windows automatically to the size of the dashboard) or to manually drag the sides of widgets in order to resize them.
  • 'Size' determines the size in pixels of the dashboard itself. Making it larger than one screen will automatically generate scroll bars.

STEP 3: Queries
Change a query

Changed your mind about your query? Not a problem. While the edit menu is still up, hover over the icons in the top right hand corner of each of your visualizations. Here you'll find the options for changing a query, sending a query to the pivot table, renaming the title of the query and deleting the chart from the dashboard. Note: if you delete the chart from your dashboard and want to reinstate it later, you can find the query in the list of queries under Analyze > Library > Queries.

STEP 4: Publishing options
Publishing

The 'publish' option from the original drop down menu (see step 2) allows you to modify your publishing settings. Check the box to 'make this tab public', and then decide how to proceed. You can make the dashboard available 'where it is' using a URL to the relevant dashboard in your bimeapp account. Alternatively, you can embed the dashboard itself in your website or blog. Bime generates the embed code for you. You can also customize the tail of the URL by clicking "customize". This will bring up a new window where you can enter your desired tail.

There are 2 other sections to the publish window: protection and customization. In protection, you can password protect the dashboard, restrict access to specified named user groups and set an expiration date for access. In customization, you have the option to further personalize your dashboard through colors, language, export options and more.

STEP 5: Sharing your dashboard
Sharing option

Bime gives you the option to share your dashboard with other users within Bime. Choose 'share' from the dropdown menu and this brings up a box which enables you to share access to the dashboard and underlying queries with other users registered to your account with Bime. Choose which of your fellow users you wish to share with from the drop-down list, using the '+' button to add more names.

STEP 6: Dashboard preferences
Dashboard preferences

Want to use query filters as prompts? Hide Déjà Vu updates? Or allow drill through, drill down or decompose on your data? Look no further than the 'preferences' option in the drop down menu. Simply check the boxes. Here you can also change the name of your dashboard.
